
With a view to arousing awareness for protection environment, SGAT has been organising ENVIRONMENT-CUM-MINERAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME (EMAP) for students of High Schools, in different Mining and Industrial areas of the State. The winning teams from each mining and industrial areas participate in the State Level EMAP held during the month of January/ February every year at Bhubaneswar.

On 24th March 2025 the participants visited Regional Science Centre, Kala Bhoomi Odisha Crafts Museum and Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre before coming to SGAT in the evening. The visits to the centres were facilitated by M. D, Behera and A. K. Raut. In SGAT building, the participants visited the Mineral Museum of SGAT. Shri J. K. Nanda explained the different components of the museum to the participants. It was followed by the written test, which was conducted by Shri G. P. Mohapatra. The topic of the written test was “Odisha’s Vast Mineral Wealth Vs. Mining Environment. ଓଡିଶାର ବିପୁଳ ଖଣିଜ ସମ୍ପଦ ବନାମ ଖଣି ଅଂଚଳ ପରିବେଶ |”. The final event of the day was the identification of photographs by the participants, which was conducted by T. Mohanta in association with A. K. Raut and M. D. Behera, who helped in scoring.
On 25th March 2025 the participants visited Regional Museum of Natural History. The visit was facilitated by S. K. Mohanty and K. Patnaik. Back at SGAT the identification of rocks, minerals, ore and plants were conducted by J. R. Patnaik, M. D. Behera, Dr T. Basa, T. Panda and R. N. Praharaj. The jury members of the Elocution were G. P. Mohapatra and R. N. Praharaj. The topic of elocution was “Global Warming: What are the Measures to Control it? ବିଶ୍ୱ ତାପମାତ୍ରା ବୃଦ୍ଧି: ଏହାକୁ ନିୟନ୍ତ୍ରଣ କରିବାର ଉପାୟ କ’ଣ?”. The topic of the elocution was decided by Dr B. M. Faruque.
Oral Quiz was the last item of the tests of the State Level EMAP. M. D. Behera, K. Patnaik, Dr. B. M. Faruque, A. K. Raut and S. K. Mohanty helped in formulation of questions of the Oral Quiz. The Oral Quiz was conducted by Khitish Patnaik with technical help from T. Mohanta. A. K. Raut and M. D. Behera were the scorers of the Oral Quiz.
The Valedictory and Prize distribution Ceremony was graced by Dr. Aurobindo Behera, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary and Member of the Board of Revenue, Govt. of Odisha as the Chief Guest. Dr. Jaya Krushna Panigrahi, Professor, Sri Jayadev College of Education and Technology & Working President, Orissa Environmental Society and Shri Sunit Kumar Patel, Executive Director (Mines & Metal Business), The World Group, Bhubaneswar, Odisha were the Guests of Honour and Miss Navya Namasya Kar of Class-X, DAV Public School, Unit-VIII was present as the Youth Icon.
Besides mementos to all teachers and participation prizes to all participating students, prizes were given for Written test; Elocution; Identification of photographs, rocks, minerals, ores and plants; Oral Quiz and Overall Winners.
In written test, Master Hitesh Patra of Atomic Energy Central School, Matikhalo; Master Jyoti Prakash Prusty of Aditya Birla Public School, Oshapada and Master Bishnu Prasad Patra of Atomic Energy Central School, Matikhalo secured the First, Second and Third positions respectively.
In elocution, Miss D. S. Aditi of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar; Master Ayushman Giri of Delhi Public School, Damanjodi and Miss Lipsarani Acharya of Rabindra Vidya Niketan, Keonjhar secured the First, Second and Third positions respectively.
In identification of photographs, rocks, minerals, ores and plants, DAV Public School, MCL, Jagannath Area, Talcher represented by Master Ashutosh Mohanty and Master Debesh Ranjan Moharana secured the First position. Atomic Energy Central School, Matikhalo represented by Master Bishnu Prasad Patra and Master Hitesh Patra secured the Second position whereas Delhi Public School, Damanjodi represented by Master Ayushman Giri and Miss Shreyasi Padhihari secured the Third position.
In Oral Quiz, there was a tie among Delhi Public School, Damanjodi represented by Master Ayushman Giri and Miss Shreyasi Padhihari; Rabindra Vidya Niketan, Keonjhar represented by Miss Anushka Sahu and Miss Lipsarani Acharya; and DAV Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar represented by Master Anwesh Mishra and Miss D. S. Aditi and all the three teams were adjudged to have secured the First position.
DAV Public School, MCL, Jagannath Area, Talcher represented by Master Debesh Ranjan Moharana and Master Ashutosh Mohanty was adjudged the Overall Third team of the event. Atomic Energy Central School, Matikhalo represented by Master Hitesh Patra and Master Bishnu Prasad Patra was adjudged the Overall Second team of the event. Delhi Public School, Damanjodi represented by Miss Shreyasi Padhihari and Master Ayushman Giri was adjudged the Overall First team of the event.
The family members of Late B. K. Mohanty (Son, Swaraj Mohanty; daughter-in-law, Anjali Mohanty; daughter, Anuradha Mohanty and niece, Shila Patnaik), who sponsored the Overall First Team Trophy, joined hands with the Chief Guest, Dr Aurobindo Behera, IAS (Retd.) to present the trophy to the Overall Best Team.
The State Level EMAP came to an end with Vote of Thanks from J. N. Das.

On 18th January 2025 the participants visited Regional Science Centre, Odisha State Museum and Regional Museum of Natural History before coming to SGAT in the evening. The visits to the centres were facilitated by J. N. Das, S. N. Mohanty and Dr M. Mohanty. In SGAT building, the written test was conducted by Shri G. P. Mohapatra. The topic of the written test was “Can the mining of minerals be practised in a sustainable manner and an environment friendly way? Justify. ଖଣିଜ ଖନନକୁ ଏକ ସ୍ଥାୟୀ ପଦ୍ଧତି ଏବଂ ପରିବେଶ ଅନୁକୂଳ ଉପାୟରେ ଅଭ୍ୟାସ କରାଯାଇପାରିବ କି? ଯଥାର୍ଥତା ପ୍ରତିପାଦନ କର |”. After the written test the participants visited the Mineral Museum of SGAT. Shri G. C. Das explained the different components of the museum to the participants. It was followed by identification of photographs by the participants, which was conducted by T. Mohanta in association Khitish Patnaik and M. D. Behera, who helped in scoring.
On 19th January 2025 the participants visited Kala Bhoomi Odisha Crafts Museum. The visit to Kala Bhoomi were facilitated by A. K. Raut and R. N. Praharaj. Back at SGAT the identification of rocks, minerals, ore and plants were conducted by Dr M. Mohanty, J. R. Patnaik, Dr T. Basa and R. N. Praharaj. Elocution was conducted by A. B. Panigrahi. The topic of elocution was “No health and no wealth without a safe environment. ନିରାପଦ ପରିବେଶ ବିନା ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ନାହିଁ କି ସମ୍ପତ୍ତି ନାହିଁ|”. The topic of the elocution was decided by Dr V. P. Upadhyay and A. B. Panigrahi.
Oral Quiz was the last item of the tests of the State Level EMAP. D. K. Mohanty, M. D. Behera, K. Patnaik, G. C. Das, Dr. B. M. Faruque, A. K. Raut and S. K. Mohanty helped in formulation of questions of the Oral Quiz. The Oral Quiz was conducted by Khitish Patnaik. A. K. Raut and M. D. Behera were the scorers of the Oral Quiz.

In written test, Miss Subhashree Dash of Aditya Birla Public School, Oshapada; Master Akansh Biswal of Delhi Public School, Damanjodi and Master Chandan Sourav Patra of Stewart School, Tata Steel Ltd., Sukinda secured the First, Second and Third positions respectively.
In elocution, Miss Shreeja Paul of Tata DAV Public School, Noamundi; Miss Prapti Parineeta of DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar, Bhubaneswar and Miss Subhashree Dash of Aditya Birla Public School, Oshapada secured the First, Second and Third positions respectively. All the winners in this category were girls.
In identification of photographs, rocks, minerals, ores and plants, Delhi Public School, Damanjodi represented by Master Akansh Biswal and Miss Aditi Satpathy secured the First position. Aditya Birla Public School, Oshapada represented by Miss Subhashree Dash and Master Subhrajit Sahoo secured the Second position whereas DAV Public School, MCL, Kalinga Area represented by Master Soham Swain and Master Anshuman Pradhan secured the Third position.
In Oral Quiz, Dalmia Vidya Mandir, Rajgangpur represented by Master Vaibhav Agrawal and Master Omkar Rana secured the First position. Behera, Dr. Tilottama Basa, J. R. Patnaik, G. P. Mohapatra, G. P. Mohapatra, Dr. V. P. Upadhyay and T. Panda among others under the overall supervision of S. K. Mohanty, Vice-President.
The Valedictory Session and Prize Distribution Ceremony started with deep tribute to Patron, B. K. Mohanty who died on 18.1.1024. He was remembered for conceiving and conducting the EMAP and MDAP programmes of SGAT. The session was graced by Shri Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, IAS (Retd.), Former CEO, Dhamra Port, as Chief Guest; Prof. Dr. Sarita Supakar, Member, OPSC, as Guest of Honour and Shri Veer Bansidhar Mishra of Class IX of KT Global School, as the Youth Icon. The Valedictory Session was presided by Shri G. S. Khuntia, President, SGAT. Prof. O. N. Mohanty, former President, SGAT also addressed the students during the Valedictory Session. The Valedictory Session was attended by the son, daughter and niece of Late B. K. Mohanty.
Miss Shreyanshee Sayantini of Delhi Public School, Damanjodi scored the highest mark in Elocution and Master Anshuman Panigrahi, D. A. V. Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar emerged winner in Written Test. Master Aditya Aryan Rout and Miss Shreyanshee Sayantini of Delhi Public School, Damanjodi scored the highest marks in Identification while Master Asmadiya Mahapatra & Master Anshuman Panigrahi of D. A. V. Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar emerged winners in Oral Quiz. Master Asmadiya Mahapatra & Master Anshuman Panigrahi of D. A. V. Public School, Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar were adjudged the Overall Best Team of the competition.

The tests were supervised and evaluated by SGAT Members, comprising J. N. Das, A. K. Raut, T. Mohanta, Bikash C. Sahoo, M. D. Behera, Dr. Tilottama Basa, J. R. Patnaik, G. C. Das, Dillip K. Mohanty, Dr. Rajgopal Mohanty, G. S. Khuntia and G. P. Mohapatra among others under the overall supervision of S. K. Mohanty, Vice-President.
Miss Pratisha Pradhan of DPS Damanjodi scored the highest mark in Elocution and Miss Adyashakti Mahapatra of Aditya Birla Public School, Oshapada emerged winner in Written Test. Miss Senona Satapathy and Ranesh Swain of DAV Public School, MCL, Kalinga area, Talcher scored the highest marks in Identification while Miss Soumyaa Sefali Pratihari and Miss Debika Sahoo of Ravindra Vidya Niketan, Kendujhar emerged winners in Oral Quiz. Miss Pratisha Pradhan and Saksham Gupta of DPS, Damanjodi were adjudged the Overall Best Team of the competition.
The concluding session of the event was presided by Dr. O N Mohanty, President, SGAT. Mr. R. Balkrishnan, IAS (Retd.), Chief Advisor to CMO, Odisha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Mr. Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director, Operation, OMC was the Guest of Honour. Ms. Shifa Prism, student of of BJEM School, joined the event as the Youth Icon.
The State Level Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme, 2023 was sponsored by Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd. and co-sponsored by Vedanta Ltd., M/s MGM Minerals Ltd., M/s S. N. Mohanty and Rungta Sons (P) Ltd.

During 2019 the Regional Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme was organised for Class-IX students the following 12 mining and industrial regions of Odisha at venues mentioned against them.

The winner teams of above regions participated in State Level Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme conducted at SGAT building, Bhubaneswar on 11th and 12th January 2020.

The activities covered under the programme include the following:
- Visits to Regional Science and Pre-historic Life Park, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre and Regional Plant Resources Centre
- Identification of Plant and Mineral specimen and photographs
- Elocution
- Oral Quiz
The tests were supervised and evaluated by SGAT Council Members, comprising Shri A B Panigrahi, Shri Trilochan Mohanta, Shri Bikash Sahoo, Shri Mayadhar Behera, Dr. Tilottama Basa, Smt. Nirupama Dash, Shri J R Patnaik, Dr. S C Mahala, Shri G C Das among others under the overall supervision of Shri B K Mohanty, Patron.
Bhavya Kar of DPS Damanjodi scored the highest mark in written test; Soumya Subhrakanta of DAV Public School, Pokhariput the winner in Elocution while Ashutosh Hota and Piyush Dhar of DAV Public School, MCL, Kalinga area scored the highest marks in Identification. Soumya Subhrakanta and Prayash Priyankar of DAV Public School, Pokhariput emerged the winner of Quiz programme and were adjudged the Overall Best Team of competition.
The concluding session of event was presided by Dr. O N Mohanty, President, SGAT. Others who graced at included Dr. P K Mishra, former Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of Coal, Shri H R Biswas, Scientist-in Charge of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Dr. S K Tamotia, former President, SGAT. Kumari Aisha Panda, student of Class VII of BJEM School, was felicitated for her outstanding achievements in International, National and State level competitions in field of Paintings.
